About Rhinebeck Village

We Love Our Community

The Village of Rhinebeck was incorporated in 1834 and exists within the Town of Rhinebeck, County of Dutchess, and State of New York. The Village functions as a jurisdiction of government separate from the Town of Rhinebeck and is governed by a Mayor and four Trustees. The Village covers 1.6 square miles and is home to 2657 residents (as of the 2010 census). The Village operates a Justice Court, Police Department, Fire Department, and Maintenance Department, as well as Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment Facilities. The Village is taking action as a Climate Smart Community and has active environmental volunteers working to improve the municipality’s efficiency, resiliency and health.

Our Community

The Village of Rhinebeck enjoys a rich history and serves as the community center and hub of commerce within the Town. Rhinebeck was once the “violet capital of the world” and still draws visitors from all over for its bucolic beauty and community spirit. The Village municipal parking lot is host to The Rhinebeck Farmers’ Market on Sundays, voted Hudson Valley’s Best Farmers’ Market for many years. Our “downtown” is packed with independently owned shops and restaurants. Throughout the year, the Dutchess County Fairgrounds brings notable events such as the Sheep and Wool Festival and the Dutchess County Fair, the largest fair in NY State. Rhinebeck’s artistic side also thrives, with an annual community-led Sinterklass parade and other efforts.
